Tomorrow is the big day! I can't wait! I've been sitting around all day today eating junkfood and thinking yogic thoughts, looking forward to Day 1 of my yoga challenge. But before I get started (or eat more junk food), I think there are two things that every 30-day yogi should do before commencing the 30-Day regime.
1. Take stock of your "before."
2. Create an intention.
My Before
I feel so tubby that I don't want to look down, lest I see my stomach. Yes, it can feel intimidating to take that "before" snapshot. It may seem easier to ignore the truth. But take a long honest look in the mirror (literally and metaphorically). When you're halfway through a workout regime and feeling discouraged, you'll be able to look back at this moment and realize how far you've come.
Just to show you my honesty and commitment, I'm baring my "before" to you: Today, I ate 3 squares of chocolate, two rounds of pasta, a hamburger for breakfast and an indulgent trail mix in between. My waistline is 29" (up from 25"), my hips are 35" and the circumference of the fattest part my right thigh is 23''. I haven't touched my novel in months and it is stalled on page 90.
My Intention
Just as every thoughtful yoga instructor invites yogis to dedicate their hour's practice to a certain intention, I think it's a good idea to dedicate the entire 30 days to an entire intention. In short, what do you hope to accomplish by such a feat? And as always, I think it's heartwarming to direct your practice to a certain person in need.
Oh gee, I guess this is the time where I should share my intention. I haven't really taken much time to brainstorm about this one. Perhaps this should be my intention: to create a little space for mindfulness in my mind ... nah. I'll be honest. I hope to tune up my body as it is a machine that I've recently been abusing. That's No. 1. But since this is 30 day's worth of dedication, I'll allow myself a spiritual and friendual dedication as well. Spiritually, I hope to use this practice to gain the courage to finish my novel. Friendual, I dedicate this month to my mom because she is standing next to me as I write this and I am thankful for her. And I also dedicate my practice to my favorite supporters: Marcia and Sherry!
See you tomorrow!!!
