This month breast cancer was in the forefront for us when we held a special yoga class at our studio to benefit our local chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. So we were heartened by a recent clinical study that confirmed that yoga improves the health of women facing breast cancer treatments. New research from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has indicated that for women with breast cancer undergoing radiation therapy, yoga offers unique benefits beyond fighting fatigue. Patients who participated in yoga that incorporated yogic breathing, asanas, meditation and relaxation techniques into their treatment plan experienced improved physical functioning, better general health and lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels. This is welcome and wonderful news! Battling breast cancer is tremendously stressful, both physically and emotionally. Big thumbs up for yoga and MD Anderson for helping women recover better and be healthier.

Yoga can be a useful method to help relieve some symptoms of chronic diseases such as cancer and can lead to increased relaxation and physical fitness. Yoga, without a doubt, is beneficial to patients dealing with breast cancer, especially in overcoming unwanted effects from cancer treatment.
